Justin Vernon 2023 Scholarship Winner

Justin's Story

Justin has shown tremendous perseverance and has overcome many obstacles to graduate with his regular Alabama High School diploma this year.  Despite losing his grandmother unexpectedly in January of this year, he continued with his studies and was able to earn a college-career readiness credential in the area of Guest Services.  He also successfully completed a six-week Employment Development Program at the Marriott Shoals Hotel & Spa during the months of March and April - during which time he was trained in the job duties of public space attendant, utility person, laundry attendant, bellman, and housekeeper.  He also developed other employability skills such as self-management and communication.  Justin plans on attending Northwest Shoals Community College this fall - and is currently interested in pursuing a career in the area of culinary arts.
